Mazda SKYACTIV®-G Engine Detailed Explanation
One of Mazda’s biggest selling points is the implementation of their independently developed SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY. However, while an impressive label, many drivers probably don’t know the details of what SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY means or what it does better when compared to other brands. What is SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY?
The basic principle of SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY is to elevate and improve the very basics, or rather foundation, of vehicles. By altering and perfecting the foundation, the rest of the features of each Mazda model are allowed to shine brighter than ever before. So, just to be clear, what do we mean when we say the foundation?
Currently, SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY is put to use in Mazda vehicles to improve performance, efficiency, and strength. The areas where SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY is present are the engine (SKYACTIV®-G), automatic transmission (SKYACTIV®-Drive), manual transmission (SKYACTIV®-MT), body (SKYACTIV®-Body), and chassis (SKYACTIV®-Chassis).
What is the SKYACTIV®-G Engine?
Most Mazda models are equipped with some version of a SKYACTIV®-G engine. While horsepower is certainly an issue, the greater aim for the SKYACTIV®-G engine is efficiency, providing the standard and expected engine output levels but with an improved fuel economy. Often supercharged and with a high compression ratio, Mazda SKYACTIV®-G engines have improved expected fuel economy and torque ratings by 15%.
Additionally, there is also the SKYACTIV®-D engine for Mazda diesel models in development.
