Service engine light on in a car

Cars are a complicated collection of gears, belts, and other machinery. There are a lot of moving parts in every car, but most of those parts are centered in the engine. People know that taking care of the engine is one of the most important things in car ownership.

Most drivers are tuned into how their engine sounds, so any sound that is out of place is noticeable. There are a lot of different things that can cause different noises. It can cause a bit of a panic when things sound off. Sometimes the fix is fairly easy, but it can be a costly fix if things have gone really bad. Let’s figure out what some of these noises mean.

What Engine Noises Mean

The first thing to check is if your Mazda has a Skyactiv engine. These engines draw in more power which causes the engine to be a bit louder. There might still be some noises that give you a cause for concern. One of the common sounds you might hear is clicking at lower engine RPM’s. This is caused by a problem in your valve train or low oil pressure.

A rattling sound could mean there is a problem with the timing chain. This chain is used to keep your engine running smoothly, but if there is slack in the line it might cause a rattling noise. If it is a rattling or pinging noise, then it could be a major problem. Rattling or pinging when you are accelerating could mean your engine is having trouble with pre-ignition. Pre-ignition is when fuel is ignited before the piston reaches the top of its stroke and it can lead to a lot of damage.
